LEE TAYLOR
PROGRAM DIRECTOR | Cohort XV, Orcas Island
San Juan Island | Program Director 2014-2016
Lee Taylor retired from a 35-year career with the National Park Service in 2021 and returned to San Juan Island, where she served as the Superintendent of San Juan Island National Historical Park from 2011-2015. Lee was a participant in Cohort X, and assisted with instruction and coordination of the program the following two years. She has chosen San Juan Island as her permanent home after a nomadic career that took her to 11 national parks in five states.
In 2015 Lee moved to Olympic National Park in the role of Deputy Superintendent and, later, Superintendent. In this leadership role, Lee was responsible for the operation of a complex National Park comprising 938,000 acres and managed a staff of 120 permanent and 300 seasonal employees. Lee has extensive experience developing and leading teams, building partnerships, cultivating shared vision, resolving conflict, and leading with humility.
Despite her retirement from public service, Lee continues to contribute to the community through volunteer work with the San Juan Community Theatre, Lime Kiln State Park, and work for the Friday Harbor Film Festival. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Northwest Youth Corps.
